Atom Builder
Build atoms proton by proton in your browser and watch each element come to life as you go.
Overview
Atom Builder is a free, hands-on science simulation from ScoutQuest that lets you construct atoms one particle at a time. Add protons, neutrons, and electrons and watch the element, charge, and isotope update live as your atom takes shape. It turns abstract chemistry concepts into something you can actually click, build, and explore right in the browser.
The problem
Atomic structure and the periodic table are hard to grasp from static textbook diagrams alone.
How it works
You add protons, neutrons, and electrons to a nucleus in an interactive canvas, and the simulation updates the resulting element, charge, and isotope in real time as you build.
Use cases
- Students learning atomic structure and how the periodic table is organized
- Teachers demonstrating protons, neutrons, electrons, ions, and isotopes in class
- Curious learners experimenting with building elements hands-on
